Waihi Kahui Ako - The journey so far

Who is in our Kahui Ako?

Was formed as a cluster of schools working collaboratively to raise achievement for all tamariki and their whanau in the Waihi area. The journey started in 2016 and has been evolving and gaining traction since its inception.

To begin with there were 7 schools involved in this Kahui Ako:

Waihi College Waihi Beach School Waihi East School Waimata School Waihi Central School Waikino School Saint Josephs Waihi

This has now grown to include the ECE ( Early Childhood Education) sector including:

Footprints Preschool, Best Start Waihi Kindy, Waihi Kindergarten, KiwiKidz Educare at the Beach,

Somerset Early Learning Centre, Athenree Montessori.

The consultation journey

In 2017 the members of the Kahui Ako, led by the previous lead principal- Alistair Cochrane- began the process of consulting with all stakeholders within the Waihi area to identify what needed to change in our education systems in order to empower our learners on a pathway to success.
